More businesses and community groups in Newport could receive funding to help them save money and reduce energy use through a Newport City Council programme.
Over the last two years, the council’s Net Zero Newport Decarbonisation Programme has provided advice and more than £700,000 in grants to support 30 organisations across the city.
The programme has now secured significant additional funding from the UK Government’s Local Growth Fund, allowing it to support more organisations.
Previous recipients include the Coach and Horses pub, which received funding through the programme to install solar panels on its roof.
Organisations are being encouraged to register their interest as soon as possible.
Who can apply?
The programme is open to small and medium-sized enterprises, legally constituted voluntary or community organisations, and registered charities.
Applicants must operate within the Newport City Council boundary.
Individuals and households, private landlords, public sector organisations, and primary and secondary agricultural businesses are not eligible for support.
What support is available?
The programme will work with organisations to explore low-carbon project ideas and opportunities that could benefit their business or community group.
Grant funding of up to £25,000 per organisation is also available to support the installation of energy-efficiency and carbon-reduction projects.
Businesses can receive funding covering up to 50 per cent of their total eligible project costs. For example, an organisation with a total project cost of £10,000 could apply for a grant of £5,000.
Community groups can receive funding covering up to 67 per cent of eligible costs. A community project costing £10,000 could therefore receive a grant of £6,700.
