Dr Mark Williams OBE, founder of prosthetic leg cover company LIMB-art, is targeting growth of up to 15% as the business expands into Malta, Italy, France and Canada.
The company, based at a converted farm at Bylchau near Denbigh, makes personalised prosthetic leg covers that are already sold in 14 countries. Dr Williams launched it with his wife Rachael in 2018.
After LIMB-art won the HSBC small business growth award earlier this year, Dr Williams was invited to feature in the bank’s autumn campaign celebrating small business across the UK. His image is appearing on HSBC digital displays in cities including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Dr Williams, 55, a former Paralympic swimmer who lost his left leg after a car accident in Rhyl when he was 10, won silver and bronze medals for Team GB at the 1988 Seoul Paralympics.
He said: “We started in 2018 and our first export was in 2020 and that was to Queensland Prosthetics in Australia.”
“We went to Leipzig in May to a four-day global amputee show and picked up a distributor from Malta who supply the health board there.”
“We are already sending out covers to them, we’ve sent out 14 covers since May, and that’s about £6,000 in export sales.”
LIMB-art has a contract with NHS Wales.
Dr Williams said: “We have a contract directly with NHS Wales so any amputee in Wales can go into their limb centre and say they want a LIMB-art cover and they can get it for free.”
He will speak about the business at the Wrexham Business Professionals Christmas dinner at the city’s Ramada Hotel on Thursday, November 19.
